The 5 must-see landmarks

What every Central Park bike tour covers.

Every Central Park bike tour — guided or self-guided — covers these five icons in roughly this order, starting from the south entrance at Columbus Circle (4 minutes from our shop):

  • 1. Strawberry Fields & the Imagine Mosaic — A 2.5-acre memorial to John Lennon, just inside the park at 72nd Street West. The Imagine mosaic was installed in 1985. Quietest before 10 AM.
  • 2. Bethesda Terrace & Fountain — The heart of the park, with the 1873 "Angel of the Waters" fountain. The terrace is covered in 16,000 ornate Minton tiles. Best light at sunrise.
  • 3. Bow Bridge over The Lake — The most-photographed bridge in NYC. Cast iron from 1862. Walk the bike across — bikes not allowed ON the bridge.
  • 4. Belvedere Castle — The 1869 Calvert Vaux miniature castle at the highest point in the park. Free entry, best view of the park and the skyline.
  • 5. Tavern on the Green — A 1934 landmark restaurant on the west side at 67th Street. Good mid-ride coffee or full lunch stop.

The five landmarks are spaced over about 4 miles of the 6.1-mile loop, leaving room to explore the Mall, Belvedere Castle climb, and Bow Bridge photo stop.
