E-bike Rental Central Park NYC

Velotric Discover Class 2 e-bikes — pedal assist to 28 mph, 65-mile battery range, integrated lights and lock. From $25/hour, 4 minutes from Central Park's south entrance.

Why an e-bike

Central Park has hills. We have torque.

The Cathedral Hill climb up West Drive. The North Woods grade. The Great Hill. All effortless with pedal assist.

Central Park's 6.1-mile loop is mostly flat, but there are three meaningful climbs that catch most first-timers off guard: the West Drive ascent past Strawberry Fields, the North Woods stretch above 90th Street, and the East Drive return at 102nd Street. On a classic bike they're a workout. On a Velotric e-bike they're a stretch.

Where the e-bike really pays off:

  • Cover the whole loop with photo stops in 1 hour instead of 2
  • No sweat — show up to dinner reservations in the same clothes
  • Couples ride at the same pace regardless of fitness
  • Quick exit to the Hudson Greenway or Brooklyn Bridge after the park loop — distance stops being a factor

Class 2 e-bike

Pedal assist up to 20 mph in Class 2 mode (NYC legal everywhere). Switchable to Class 3 (28 mph pedal assist) for private property only.

Throttle + Pedal Assist

Class 2 means you can ride throttle-only — no pedaling required for the first 20 mph. Or pedal for a workout with motor help.

65-mile range

Full battery covers about 10 Central Park loops. Even on heavy throttle you'll get 35+ miles. No range anxiety.

Built-in everything

Integrated front + rear lights, phone holder, bell, kickstand, and rack. The cable lock is in the included U-lock.

E-bike classes explained

Three classes. One legal everywhere.

The U.S. federal classification system divides electric bikes into three classes based on top assisted speed and whether throttle is allowed. NYC follows this system.

  • Class 1 — Pedal assist only (no throttle). Motor stops assisting at 20 mph. Allowed in Central Park.
  • Class 2 — Pedal assist AND throttle. Motor stops at 20 mph. Allowed in Central Park. Our Velotric Discover is Class 2.
  • Class 3 — Pedal assist only, but motor goes up to 28 mph. NOT allowed in Central Park or any NYC park.

Our Velotric can switch between Class 2 (street legal everywhere) and Class 3 (28 mph pedal assist, private property only) — we set it to Class 2 by default for everyone.

Frequently asked

E-bike Rental Central Park NYC — FAQ.

Are e-bikes allowed in Central Park?
Yes. Class 1 and Class 2 e-bikes (up to 20 mph pedal assist or throttle) are permitted on Central Park's bike loop. Our Velotric Discover bikes are Class 2 and legal everywhere bicycles ride in NYC.
How fast does the Velotric e-bike go?
Pedal assist tops out at 28 mph (Class 3 mode on private property). On NYC public streets and in Central Park, the e-bike is restricted to 20 mph in Class 2 mode for legality. Throttle works up to 20 mph.
Do I need a license to ride an e-bike?
No license needed for Class 1, 2, or 3 e-bikes in New York. You must be 16 or older. Helmet is required for riders 16–17 and recommended for everyone — we include one with every rental.
How long does the battery last?
Velotric Discover e-bikes have a 65-mile range on a single charge — about 10 full loops of Central Park. Even on full throttle the whole time, you'll get around 35 miles before needing a charge.
What is the difference between an e-bike and an electric bike?
They are the same product, just two different names. "E-bike" is the shorter, newer term; "electric bike" is the older, longer version. Both refer to a bicycle with a battery-powered motor that assists pedaling.
